The release occurred In the NE %. of Section <br />17, Township 2 South, Range 67 West, Adams County. This location Is Just south of <br />104"` Avenue, on the west side of time South Platte River, The release was9 caus®d by an <br />attempted tap of our pipeline by an unknown third party. This attempted tap caused a'de" <br />long h®Irllne crack of the pipe body. Thb leaking pipe was discovered during a scheduled <br />relacatbn project by Sinclair's maintenance Gnaws. <br />It is unknown at this time how long the pipeline had b®en leaking. Thee leak was <br />characterized as a tine mist of gasoline. The pipeline transports t'inlshed petroleum <br />products, primarily gasoline, aRhough some diesel fuel has been shippacl over the years. <br />The leak was discovered on May 8~ at 2:45 p.m. k was reported to the CDPHE <br />Spill Reporting Hotline at 3:42 p.m. (incident number 2006-411). <br />Following discovery, the black valve located just 25' north of the leaking pipe was <br />closed, The pipeline was net operating at the time - it had been shutdown on May 4'" as <br />per the pipeline schedule. The motor operated v~ve >At Slnclaid's Terminal, located an <br />913' Avenue, was opened by the Sindatr control center to rolieve any pressure on the <br />line. A vacuum truck was dispatched to the acne end approximately 800 gallons of <br />gasoline was removed form the pipeline at the black valve. This eliminated any mare <br />product from escaping from the pipeline. During this drain in procedure the leaking <br />gasoline was contained by absorbent pads. <br />Approximately 110 cubic yards of contaminated soil was r>smaved from th® <br />immediate area around Ute leak sit® and temporarily stoned on plastic. This loll was <br />sampled and testlrg is ongaing so that disposal of the sot! can be arranged. No product <br />reached the South Platte ~tiver. No contaminated sail was observed mare than 2 feet <br />above the pipe.
