Mr. Carl Mount, Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
March 13, 2008
Page Two
AGGREGATE
INDUSTRIES
results of these samples are enclosed. One load, or approximately 20 cubic yards, of oil stained
material from thi:~ area was excavated and stockpiled on site at an above-grade location. Pictures
of the area excavated are enclosed. The excavated material will be hauled to Aggregate
Industries' Riven~iew Resource mine (IVILRB Permit M-1999-098) and fed. directly into the
asphalt plant operated on that site.
With the exception of hauling the material to the asphalt plant, which will occur when that plant
resumes operation this spring, the above abatement activities were completed by November 20,
2007. All remaining earth work associated with reclaiming the 83rd Joint Venture site is
expected to be completed within the next month, at which time we will want to discontinue de-
watering of the pit. We would therefore appreciate confirmation from the Division that.
appropriate dispo.sitian of fue} and/or oi} contaminated material has been accomp}fished, and we
would again regwest that the Division grant site closure in the matter of the 2001 diesel fuel
release so that we can cease dewatering activity.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to call Scott
Rutherford directly, (910) 377-1600 or you can contact me at (970) 336-6526. We look forwazd
to your response in this matter.
Very truly yours,
I'~'~Kp iyl
4?~~0
Connie N.
