• C2/OB2 horizon - 24 to 35 inches; brown to grayish brown (lOYR 5/3, 5/2) silty clay <br />loam with 30% sandstone and shale fragments, brown to dark brown (lOYR 4/3, 4/2) <br />moist; horizon is a mix of reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil; massive, <br />compacted structure; hard dry consistence, firm moist consistence, sticky and slightly <br />plastic wet consistence; few fine and very fine roots; moderately effervescent, slightly <br />alkaline (pH 7.4); gradual wavy boundary. <br />OB3 horizon (overburden spoil) - 35 to 72 inches; light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) silt <br />loam overburden spoil with about 75% sandstone and shale fragments, grayish brown <br />(lOYR 5/2) moist; massive, compacted structure; extremely hard dry consistence, firm <br />moist consistence, sticky and slightly plastic wet consistence; moderately effervescent, <br />slightly alkaline (pH 7.4); gradual wavy boundary. <br />2W Mine Reclaimed Land Soil Pit 2W-TS-07-P3 (2W Pit 3) <br />Sample site 2W-TS-07-P3 is located on reclaimed land at the 2W Mine. Site <br />characteristics include: 5% slope on reclaimed lower slope in a valley; southwest aspect; <br />mixed reclamation grasses and fortis, excellent cover and productivity; reapplied topsoil; <br />well drained; moderate permeability; slight erosion in spots at sample site; sampled <br />October 10, 2007. Soil samples for lab include 0-8" (reapplied topsoil), 8-18" (reapplied <br />topsoil), 18 to 32" (mix of reapplied topsoil and overburden spoil), and 32 to 52" and 52 <br />• to 72" (overburden spoil). <br />A horizon - 0 to 8 inches; brown (lOYR 4/3) silt loam with 8% gravel-size sandstone and <br />shale fragments, dark brown (lOYR 3/3) moist; moderate medium granular to subangular <br />blocky structure; slightly hard dry consistence, friable moist consistence, slightly sticky <br />and slightly plastic wet consistence; common coarse, medium, fine and very fine roots; <br />slightly effervescent, neutral (pH 6.8, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />BC horizon - 8 to 18 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) silt loam with 10% gravel-size sandstone <br />and shale fragments, dark brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; weak medium subangular blocky <br />structure; very hard dry consistence, firm moist consistence, slightly sticky and slightly <br />plastic wet consistence; common coarse, medium, fine and very fine roots; slightly <br />effervescent, neutral (pH 7.1, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />C/OBI horizon - 18 to 32 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) clay loam with about 70% <br />overburden spoil fragments mixed in, brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; massive, very compacted <br />structure; very hard dry consistence, firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet <br />consistence; common fine and very fine, and few coarse and medium roots; moderately <br />effervescent, slightly alkaline (pH 7.4, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />OB2 horizon (overburden spoil) - 32 to 52 inches; light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) silty <br />clay loam (32% clay) overburden spoil, dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) moist; massive, <br />. compacted structure; very hard dry consistence, firm moist consistence; sticky and plastic <br />8 <br />
