• C/OBI horizon - 12 to 18 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) silt loam with many <br />overburden spoil fragments, brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; horizon is a mixture of reapplied <br />topsoil and overburden spoil; massive, compacted structure; hard dry consistence, firm <br />moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet consistence; few medium, fine, and very fine <br />roots; moderately effervescent, slightly alkaline (pH 7.4, from lab data); gradual wavy <br />boundary. <br />OB2 horizon (overburden spoil) - 18 to 40 inches; light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) silt <br />loam overburden spoil with many sandstone, shale, and other overburden fragments, <br />grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) moist; massive, very compacted structure; extremely hard dry <br />consistence, firm moist consistence, sticky and slightly :plastic wet consistence; <br />moderately effervescent, neutral (pH 7.2, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />OB3 (overburden spoil) - 40 to 64 inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) clay loam <br />overburden spoil with many sandstone, shale, and other overburden fragments, dark <br />grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) moist; massive, very compacted structure; extremely hard dry <br />consistence, firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet consistence; moderately <br />calcareous; neutral (pH 7.2, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />2WMine Reclaimed Land Soil Pit 2W-TS-07-PI (2WPit 1) <br />Sample site 2W-TS-07-P1 is located on reclaimed land at the 2W Mine. Site <br />. characteristics include: reclaimed 8% slope on hill upper-sideslope position; west aspect; <br />mixed reclamation grasses and fortis, excellent cover and productivity; reapplied topsoil; <br />well drained; moderate permeability; no erosion at site; sampled October 10, 2007; soil <br />samples for lab include 0-6" (reapplied topsoil), 6-14" (reapplied topsoil), 14-24" (mix of <br />reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil, primarily in lower part of depth <br />interval, and 24-48" and 48-72" (overburden spoil). <br />A horizon - 0 to 6 inches; brown (lOYR 4/3) silt loam with 10% sandstone and shale <br />fragments, dark brown (lOYR 3/3) moist; moderate medium granular structure over <br />moderate medium subangular blocky; slightly hard dry consistence, very friable moist <br />consistence, slightly sticky and slightly plastic wet consistence; few to common fine and <br />very fine, and few medium and coarse roots; slightly effervescent, neutral (pH 7.1, from <br />lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />Bw horizon - 6 to 14 inches; brown (lOYR 4/3) loam with 5% sandstone and shale <br />fragments, dark brown (1 OYR 4/3) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; <br />slightly hard dry consistence, friable moist consistence, slightly sticky and slightly plastic <br />wet consistence; few to common fine and very fine, and few medium and coarse roots; <br />slightly effervescent, neutral (pH 7.0 from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />C/OBl horizon - 14 to 24 inches; grayish brown to brown (IOYR 5/2, 4/3) silt loam with <br />many overburden spoil fragments, dark grayish brown to brown (lOYR 4/2, 4/3) moist; <br />• horizon is a mix of reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil; massive structure; <br />very hard dry consistence, very firm moist consistence, sticky and plastic wet <br />6 <br />
