Colowyo C-1981-019
26 February 2008 ~7
Pg 5/6 ~FJV
General Mine Plc~n Compliance: -The 101 dragline is on the East Pit highwall
performing reclamation.
-The 102 dragline was in the West Pit sitting idle on the E-Seam. As the pit narrows,
there are times when only the 103 dragline will be operating. The tentative plan is to
walk the 102 out of the pit and use it to perform various reclamation tasks in the West
Pit.
-The 103 dragline was in the West Pit removing overburden on the E-Seam.
-The 114 shovel ~eperation was currently working on removing X-Seam overburden in
the X-Pod area. The overburden in this area is so soft that the 114 was free-digging.
There was also a large Komatsu loader loading overburden into 793 haul trucks at the
X-Pod location. The X-Pod area is the area at the south edge of the Section 16 Pit
that was approved for mining with the approval of Technical Revision 65. This is the
last of the X-Seai~n coal at the mine, as all of the X coal has been mined from the
West Pit.
-The 1 15 excavcitor was removing A-Seam overburden at the time of the inspection.
-The operator was preparing to shoot the F-Seam overburden in the West Pit.
-The mining at tf•ie Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP.
Fish and Wildlife: -There were deer and elk basically everywhere on the mine site at
the time of the inspection. There was also a lone porcupine walking up a slope
along the Sturgeon Road (see picture at the end of this inspection report).
Air Resource Pro~iection: -The mine was very wet on 26 February 2008 so there was no
problem with fuclitive dust. The majority of the haul roads had dried out by 27
February 2008 so there was some dust being generated. Please remember that even
though it is winter, it may still be necessary to water the haul roads, as conditions
dictate.
Excess Spoil: -The reclaimed portions of the West Pit fill were inaccessible due to
snow at the time of the inspection.
-The Streeter fill ~Nas partially covered with snow but it appeared to be well
vegetated and suable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems were
noted on the fill. This pile has gone through a Phase II bond release. The fill was well
vegetated at thE~ time of the inspection.
-The Section 161~i11 was inaccessible at the time of the inspection (and will probably
remain so until April or May).
- The operator hc~s begun construction on portions of the East Taylor fill. The area is
clear of topsoil and ready for fill. The underdrain location has been constructed and
Colowyo is waiting to get into more competent and larger rock before starting to
dump into the fill. The underdrain will be constructed using gravity-sorted rock that
will be wing-dumped into the fill. The large rock will then be covered with filter fabric
then the excess ~;poil. It is anticipated that the underdrain will be completed in
stages as compE~tent rock is encountered. **See pictures at the end of this report**
