Colowyo C-1981-019
26 February 2008~~~
Pg 3/6
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): -The West Pit Pond (NPDES 008A) was inaccessible at the
time of the inspection due to snow.
-The Rail Loop Pond (NPDES OO6A) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to a train being loaded.
-The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately two feet
below the top oi` the discharge pipe and was discharging a very small amount
through a weep hole in the pipe. The discharge looked clean at the time of the
inspection. The l~ond embankment was a bit wet and muddy but was well
vegetated and appeared stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems were noted in the embankment at the time of the inspection. The area
around the pond has been hammered hard by the deer and elk this winter. The
emergency spillway is a riprapped open channel. The spillway appeared to be
stable at the time of the inspection.
-The East Taylor (Pond (NPDES Ol OA) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection
due to snow.
- The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water approximately six feet below the
top of the discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole on the pipe.
The flume was a~vered with snow so no visual water quality was possible. Water was
also flowing into the pond (from the melting snow) at the time of the inspection. The
pond embankment was covered with snow but it appeared to be well vegetated
and stable at thE; time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the
embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open,
trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and well
maintained at the time of the inspection. The operator (Bower Brothers) has finished
cleaning the pored. Two excavators remain to be demobed from the pond. There is
some finishing work that needs to be done on the top of the pond embankment and
the inslopes of the pond. Tony indicated that this would be completed as the
excavators walked out of the area. The final volume of sediment that was removed
from the pond was just a bit shy of 8,000 cubic yards. Tony indicated that they
cleaned the pond to its original as-built capacity. **See pictures at the end of this
report**
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to snow.
-The Section 16 fond (NPDES 009) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to snow (and will probably remain so until April or May).
-The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately one foot below the
discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge appeared to be clear. The pond embankment was
covered with snow but appeared to be well vegetated and stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The discharge from the Streeter Pond enters Goodspring Creek then flows
through a large culvert under Colorado Highway 13.
-The West Taylor Pond was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due to snow.
