STATE, OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
pF COO
Department of Natural Resources P
H o
1313 Sherman St.,Room 215
Denver,CO 80203 " 1876
Phone:(303)866-3567
FAX:(303)832-8106 Roy Romer
Governor
MEMO Michael B.Long
Division Director
October 14, 1993
TO: Jim MCArdle y ,=
FROM: Steve Renner
RE: Coal Gulch Reclamation Project
I understand that the reclamation bids for the Coal Gulch Project
came in significantly higher than the amount of bond monies
available. I would like to encourage the Inactive Mined Lands
Program to enter into negotiations with the low bidder so that the
project may be tailored to the available funding level.
The regulatory program would like to have this reclamation work
completed as quickly as possible. The site has remained
unreclaimed for a number of years, and presents some degree of
potential hazard to the residents of La Plata County. In order to
eliminate any potential liabilities to which the State may be
exposed, I would request that reclamation proceed as expeditiously
as possible. I also believe that if the project could occur this
fall, the State would realize a savings by taking advantage of
current market costs, rather than gambling on escalating economic
costs in a rapidly growing area next year.
A: \cgulch
