3.1.2 Nifrafe
• Nitrate concentrations exceeded PDWS consistently from December 2006 through October 2007 sampling events. The
nitrate concentrations ranged from non-detection up to a maximum of 71.26 mg/L. The majority of the samples were over the
PDWS of 10 mg/L. Samples from wells CRMW01, CRMW02 and CRMW41 exceeded the 2006 proposed baseline level for
nitrate. These three wells are located near the northwest comer of the project site. Mining has taken place south of Weld
County Road 8, approximately a mile from these well locations and it is unlikely that any mining activities have influenced the
groundwater at these locations.
The baseline level for CRMW01 and CRMW02 is proposed to be modified to include the data from December 2006 through
October 2007 since influence from mining activities is highly unlikely. The new baseline level is shown in the table below. The
wells located near or within the mining area generally show a decrease in the nitrate concentration levels and the wells located
away from the mining area show an increase in nitrate levels since sampling began in October 2005. Graphs illustrating these
sampling results are included in Appendix A3.
Nitrate as N
•
Wells (CRMW) Site/Group

01 02 04 05 O6 07 09 16 40 41 42 AVG
Oct-05 26.09 18.67 6.38 ---- 26.85 27.98 ---- ---- 16.8 12.36 ---• i9.3
Nov-05 23.8 17.9 12.4 24.6 25.3 31.4 U 13.5 15.2 15 6.6 16.9
Dec-05 22.1 14.8 13.8 -•-- 22.3 19.5 ---- ---- 15.7 19.5 ---- 18.2
Apr-06 22.2 8.3 11 _--- 16.9 13.5 ---- •••_ 12.3 14.9 ---- 14.2
Jul-06 38.4 11.6 4.43 ---- 23.7 15.7 ---- ---- 10.2 13 •--- 16.7
Oct-O6 70.3 28.7 14.8 8.51 9.23 51 U 15.1 18.8 13.9 7.87 21.7
Dec-O6 71.26 38.75 12.89 ---- ---- ---- U 14.65 ---- ---- ---- 27.5
Apr-07 31.60 43.08 4.61 •--- 14.98 ---- U 15.48 ---- 31.34 ---- 20.2
Jul-07 37.67 35.07 3.88 •-•- 17.51 ---- 0.40 17.93 ---- 18.19 17.28 18.5
Oct-07 46.64 23.24 7.12 12.56 16.29 ---- 0.36 8.78 17.25 3.40 7.57 14.3
Average 39.0 24.0 9.1 15.2 19.2 26.5 0.1 14.2 15.2 15.7 9.8 18.4
Stnd Dev. 18.6 11.9 4.3 8.4 5.7 13.9 0.2 3.0 3.0 7.4 5.0 13.'
2006
Baseline 52.7 29.9 29.9 ---- 29.9 40.4 ---- ---- 29.9 29.9 ---- 2f~ ~~
2007
Baseline 57.6 35.9 29.9 ---- 29.9 40.4 29.9 29.9 29.9 29.9 ---- 29.9
The average nitrate level for the entire site has increased 0.3 mg/L to 18.4 mg/L from the WOBR.
