(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1981-207
INSPECTION DATE: 12/20/2007
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal program established by the Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety. The Blue Pit is located 2 miles east of Carbondale, Colorado off of Highway 82. The site is a
112c-phased operation with 71.17 permitted acres. Bill Roberts, Zach Roberts and Sean Mello of Western Slope
Aggregates accompanied the inspectors during the inspection.
The mine identification sign and the affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with rule 3.1.12.
The sign is located on a post at the main entrance on the south side of the gravel mine. The permit boundaries are
comprised of fence posts with signs that are easily identifiable around the entire perimeter of the mine. A buffer
zone of 40 to 60 feet was observed in most areas between the excavation areas and the boundary.
The focus of the inspection was to gather information and dimensions of the existing concrete plant. The
information gathered was used for calculating the cost to demolish and reclaim the proposed relocation of the
concrete plant form the current location to the east end of the mine. It was brought to the inspector's attention that
the proposed concrete plant will be almost identical to the existing facility.
A topsoil and overburden inventory was also conducted to aid in determining if the required amount of material was
on site for reclamation. During the inspection the operator gave an explanation of how the overburden was
stockpiled in abundance at the eastern end of the permit area. There are two overburden stockpiles, one located at
the east end of the permit area and one on top of the ridge located along the southern edge of the permit boundary. It
appeared that adequate amounts of overburden are located onsite along with the importation of approximately
524,000 cubic yards of inert fill to carry out the proposed reclamation of 2.5H:1 V reclaimed slopes.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the inspection are included at the end of this report.
No problems or violations were noted or observed during the February 12, 2008 inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone
no. 970-623-5596.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Bill Roberts
OPERATOR: Western Slope Aggregates
STREET: 0304 Hi am 133
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Carbondale, CO 81623
cc:
?
