3.6 Utili
Although a determination of utility is not mandated by permitting requirements, little argument can
be generated regarding the revegetated area's utility for the primary intended post-mining land use
(livestock grazing; as well as incidental use by wildlife. The increased utility of these revegetated areas is
evident from an analysis of the various data collected for cover, production, and diversity and from
observation of wiildlife sign left routinely around the reclaimed area. With regard to the measured
variables, the increase in utility of the reclaimed area is self-evident. Over the two years of sampling, the
average total herbaceous cover of the grassland and riparian revegetation exhibited 136% and 121%
of that found on the analogous reference areas, respectively. Similarly, the average total herbaceous
production of the grassland and riparian revegetation in 2006 and 2007 exhibited 122% and 121% of
that found on the analogous reference areas, respectively.
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATES, Inc.
