Additionally, 9 trees in McNulty Gulch that had
died in previous years were replaced. In total 294 Engelmann spruce and 14 subalpine fir trees
were transplanted (Table 7). Additionally, 109 willows, 19 shrubby cinquefoil, 12 birch, and 1
prickly currant were transplanted. Several of the transplanted trees contained multiple stems
within the root ball, but these were not counted separately. Due to weather constraints only 150
trees and not shrubs were measured in 2007. Because all transplants were planted in late fall,
none will have grown by the time they are measured in early spring 2008.
Table 7: 2007 transplant summary (height and diameter at breast height (DBH) only measured
for 150 trees, mean + 1 SE)
# Height DBH
Trees Planted (ft) (in)
Engelmann Spruce 294 10.2 ± 0.2 2.1 ± 0.7
subalpine Fir 14 11.9 ± 0.7 2.3 ± 0.3
Total Trees 30R 10.3 + 0.2 ?.1 + 0.1
Shrubs
Willow 109
Cinquefoil 19
Birch 12
Currant 1
Total Shrubs 1 ill
Total Transplants 449
Habitat Management, Inc. 8 December 2007
0 % 1-25 % 2650 % 51-76 % 76-99 % Dead
Needle Death
