Savage and Savage
Memorandum

•
To: Donald W. MacDonald, Coors Energy Company
From: Michael Savage, Savage and Savage, Inc.
Date: June 8, 2007
Subject: Second Quarter 2007 Pest and Disease Inspection; Keenesburg Mine
File #: C-81-028
On June 8, 2007 I conducted an inspection of the reclaimed and revegetated areas at the
Keenesburg Mine for evidence of plant pests, noxious weeds, and plant diseases that
could affect the re-established vegetation at the Keenesburg Mine. Spring precipitation,
combined with the winter snows, has yielded significant growth in the cool season
graminoid and forb components of the reclamation areas. Mountain brome, crested
wheatgrass, needle and thread, and cheatgrass showed robust and dense growth. Warm
season species growth to date is also very good, with switchgrass, blue grama, sideoats
grama, prairie sandreed, sunflower, and ground cherry observed.
All reclaimed and revegetated azeas of the mine, including the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1995,
1998 interseedings, 1999, 2000, and 2002 seedings were inspected by pedestrian and
vehicle means. The dugout area, the small cottonwood grove, the sediment pond bottom
and embankments, topsand piles, B Pit, and long-term overburden storage area were also
inspected for any potential problem azeas.
showed a deleterious effect to the live vegetation.
I did not identify any disease conditions at any of the reclaimed and revegetated areas or
within the mine site. Nor did I identify any plant pests which had affected the growth of
the vegetation during the past or current growing season. No areas were observed that
had experienced any infestation or blight. No patches of nocuous weed species were
observed, nor were any azeas identified where noxious weeds. plant nests. or disease
C: Keenesburg Pest and Disease Inspection File
Danny Kipp, Keenesburg Mine
-43-
