quantitative sample records prior to this yeaz (1998 reseeded or interseeded azeas, 1999,
2000, and 2002 reclamation areas) total vegetation cover increased from the 2006 growing
season. The 1998 azeas increased in mean cover by 24 percent, the 1999 reclamation areas
mean cover increased 28 percent, the 2000 reclamation azeas mean cover increased 23
percent, the mean cover in the 2002 reclamation azeas increased 14 percent, and the 2003
reclamation areas increased 65 percent from the cover measured in 2006. These changes can
be attributed to the precipitation distribution described above.
Table 10 provides a comparison of the relative cover of species encountered during cover
sampling in the reclamation azeas. The following depicts the significant changes in relative
cover for selected species in the 1998, 1999, and 2000 azeas (those reclamation areas with a
sampling record of three or more years).
•
Reclamation
Area plant Species 2006-2007
Chan a +/-
1998 Andro 0 on hallii 1167
Ambrosia silostach a 538
Sti a viridula 384
Helianthus annuus 340
Bromus tectorum 243
Si brium altissimum 190
Bouteloua acilis 170
Calamovil a lon ' olia -41
Kochia sco aria -83

1999 Andro 0 on hallii 432
Bromus tectorum 390
Calamovil a lon ' olia 150
Helianthus annuus -13
Kochia sco aria -59

2000 Andro 0 on erardii 720
Si brium altissimum 400
Bromus tectorum 350
Helianthus annuus 321
Calamovil a lon ' olia 198
Ambrosia silostac a 139
Andro 0 on hallii -44
Panicum vir atum -72
Kochia sco aria -88
Bouteloua acilis -94
Changes in relative cover on a yeazly basis may not reflect long term trends but should reveal
individual species responses to precipitation distribution and competition from other species.
The changes in relative cover from 2006-2007 reveal changes in species growth from a
Coors Energy Comparry Keenesburg Mine Page 20
2007 Revegetation Monitoring Report
