Mud Creek Pit -Reclamation Permit Application - 112 (C) Exhibits Page 37 of 67
EXHIBIT I -Soils Information
1. Source(s) of Information: USDA Soil Survey of Cortex Area, Colorado, Parts of Dolores and
Montezuma Counties, issued 2003.
2. Significant concerns in soils management: Prevention of water and wind erosion, and downstream
siltation.
3. Reclamation seed mix is not included as land will be reclaimed as irrigated cropland. See Exhibit J.
Seed mix for temporary stabilization and non-crop areas discussed in Exhibit J.
Method of application: Not applicable.
4. The soils map is drawn from the soil survey and on-line data available from NRCS, converted to an
AutoCAD map and included in this Exhibit.
5. The soils descriptions provided in Table B-2-1 are taken from the Survey. Field surveys have
confirmed the general accuracy of the mapping. However, test pits dug on the site indicate generally more
cobbles than for the typical soil profiles as included in the Soil Survey. This is no doubt due to the position
of the site on the ridge of quaternary alluvium which is the parent material for the soils, near the end of what
may have originally been a lateral moraine of glaciers on the La Plata mountains to the east, or a large bar
of outwash from those glaciers.
6. Topsoil stripping, storage, and replacement: For planning purposes and based on test pits, it is
assumed that an average of 2 feet of material will be removed. In all areas where topsoil is removed, the
following will be done as much as possible:
• The upper 24 inches of soil will be removed and stockpiled.
• If necessary, the larger cobbles will be removed from the topsoil prior to placement in the final location.
• Soil will placed to a depth of 12 inches or more for reclamation.
The objective is to provide as high a quality cropland as feasible at the end of mining activities.
McStone Aggregates, LLC 15 FEB 2008 ©WASTELINE, INC 2008 PN 5006.1-4(009)
