Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
We have received your letter requesting clarification receding the Hard Rock
Reclamation Awards You indicate that you feel your nomination was not considered by
the Mined Land Reclamation Board which is not the case. At the December monthly
Board Meeting, Sandra Brown presented three nominations for the Hard Rock
Reclamation Awards, including the Mount Royale reclamation project at the Slide Mine.
The nominations were extensively discussed, and ultimately the Board voted on the other
two nominations to receive the Award and Honorable Mention. The Board did take into
consideration the fact that the reclamation at the Slide Mine was conducted under a
voluntary cleanup plan overseen by the Colorado Department of Health. The other two
2007 nominees were not party to a VCUP.
Each year the Board votes on the nominations submitted to us. Our current criteria allow
us to consider all nominations presented, and we want to retain that flexibility. We
appreciate your interest in the awards program and your continued commitment to
excellent reclamation.
Sincer y,
Harry Ja ernick
Chairman, Mined Land Reclamation Board
Ronald W.
