M. COMMENTS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action. .
This was an aerial inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the DRMS.
Aerial photographs were taken on January 31, 2008 at approximately 12:25 P.M. Weather
conditions were overcast at the time of the flight. Mike Boulay of the DRMS reviewed the aerial
photographs.
Three photos were taken during the flyover. The entire Mine Area 1 a portion of Mine Area 3
and Sedimentation Ponds A and B were visible in the photographs. The mine site was entirely
snow covered and there was no activity at the site during the flyover. No problems were noted in
any of the aerial photographs.
Roads leading to the mine site and to the sedimentation ponds were snow packed and the site
appears to be inaccessible due to the snow packed road conditions.
Sedimentation Ponds A and B were viewed. Neither pond was retaining any significant amount
of water but both ponds were snow covered. Pond embankments appeared stable and no
problems were noted at either of these sediment pond locations.
Despite the heavy snow cover, some vegetation (sage brush) can be seen through the snow cover
in the photos. The site does appear to be stable with no signs of erosion or other concerns
identified.
