III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the DRMS.
Aerial photographs were taken on January 31, 2008 at approximately 1:43 p.m. Mike Boulay of
the DRMS reviewed the aerial photographs. Weather conditions were cloudy at the time of the
flight. Six photographs were taken during the flyover. The entire mine site was heavily snow
covered.
Roads
Access roads to the former office and shop/warehouse areas and the County Road up to the
Wadge Impoundment appear to have been plowed. However, these access roads are still snow
packed and there appeared to be no activity at the site. All other mine site permanent roads are
snow packed and the majority of the mine site is inaccessible.
Hydrologic Balance
Sedimentation Ponds 002 and 003 were the only ponds visible in the photographs. It is evident
that these sedimentation ponds were retaining significant amounts of water. The surfaces were
entirely snow covered and appeared frozen over. Pond inlets and embankments appear to be
stable and no problems were noted at either of these pond locations.
Support Facilities
The shop and warehouse areas were viewed. These locations had been cleared of snow to the
extent possible. From the photos, these facilities and perimeter areas appear to be well
maintained and no problems were noted with this aerial inspection.
