Colowyo C-1981-019
22 January 2008
Pg 3/6
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): - The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) was inaccessible
due to snow at the time of the inspection.
- The East Taylor Pond (NPDES 01 OA) was inaccessible due to snow at the time of the
inspection.
- The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained a small amount of water, below the
bottom of the discharge pipe, and was not discharging at the time of the inspection.
The pond embankment was covered with snow but it appeared to be well
vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on
the embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is an open,
trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and well
maintained at the time of the inspection. The operator (Bower Brothers) was cleaning
the pond at the time of the inspection (which started some time back in December
2007, as weather and ground conditions permit). Although the weather was cold
and snowy, the sediment that was being removed was remarkably dry. The inlet of
the pond was the portion that was being cleaned at the time of the inspection. It
was estimated that approximately 4,000 yard of material would need to be removed
from the pond. The operator was using a CAT 330 excavator with a long boom and
two highway-legal end dump trucks. The pond cleaning operation appeared to be
going well at the time of the inspection.
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to snow.
- The Section 16 Pond (NPDES 009) was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due
to snow (and will probably remain so until April or May).
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately one foot below the
discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge appeared to be clear. The pond embankment was
covered with snow but appeared to be well vegetated and stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The discharge from the Streeter Pond enters Goodspring Creek then flows
through a large culvert under Colorado Highway 13.
- The West Taylor Pond was inaccessible at the time of the inspection due to snow.
- The Section 28 Pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
was covered with snow but appeared to be stable. The pond embankment has
been seeded (this past fall). No erosional problems were noted on the pond
embankment at the time of the inspection.
- All of the sumps (sumps 1-5) along the road in Taylor Draw were inaccessible due to
snow at the time of the inspection.
- All of the roadside ditches were covered with snow but appeared to be stable and
in good condition. There were no erosional problems noted in any of the ditches at
the time of the inspection.
