and expected for early stage reclamation. The extremely dry year in 2006 likely increased
the weed problem in 2007 relative to the development and maturation stage of the perennial
seedlings. Given the perennial densities over the majority of the site we anticipate good
resulting long term vegetation establishment.
LWB7 Drill Pads
These sites were reseeded in the fall of 2005. Generally good seedling establishment was
noted. LWB7-2 contains abundant sagebrush seedlings. LWB7-1 contains a substantial
infestation of cheatgrass indicative of adjacent native lands. However, more perennial grass
seedlings were noted on the reseeded site than on the adjacent undisturbed ground.
Degas /Drill Sites -General Observations
Little production of vegetation occurred on these sites in 2006. 2007 marked a substantial
return of the type and character of vegetation observed in 2005. Good production and
diversity of vegetation was observed.
Return Shaft RS-3 Pad and Road -Interim Revegetation
This site was initially reseeded in 2002 with subsequent reseeding following redisturbance
in 2003/4. The latter reseeding incorporated additional native species from seed left over
from other reclamation projects. This site is producing extraordinary production of native
species leading to us to propose changes in seed mix for the current Midterm Review.
Return Shaft WMVS-1 (West Mains Ventilation Shaft)
This site continues to produce good vegetation including a healthy stand of shrubs.
Drill Site 310130-19 Pad and Road
This site, reclaimed in 2002, continues to produce a decent stand of perennial grasses with a
moderate amount of shrubs.
Refuse Area SA -Lower Section of West Ditch
This site now blends in well with adjacent vegetation. It is dominated by western
wheatgrass and cheatgrass.
