The history of the place started in the <br />early 90's when this place became a gravel pit. At that time the United office, shop, <br />ready-mix and asphalt operations were on Dike Rd. Little by little permanent facilities <br />have been constructed at River Road. <br />The office, shop, ready-mix plant, asphalt plant, fuel station, and associated storage sheds <br />are considered permanent structures at United Companies main headquarters. With <br />gravel reserves dwindling in the valley it is possible gravel materials may someday come <br />in by rail. If that happens United will be in good shape as rail service is available at the <br />adjacent United Railhead Pit.
