<br /> <br />TABLE 4.1-5 <br />TEST PIT TP 5 <br />The test pit is located in the alluvial deposits of <br />McClave Canyon, covering the alluvium of the East Salt <br />Creek. The surface is flat, the soils are alluvial. Vege- <br />tation is sagebrush and grasses. <br />A is the only soil horizon that can be identified. <br />During the excavation of the test pit, many sandstone <br />boulders ~ to 1 foot diameter have been found. <br />0 - 1" - Vegetation cover <br />1 - 12" - Light grey, very fine sand, hard, dry, <br />no mottling, very frequent fine roots. <br />Some gravel present <br />12 - 30" - Light grey, very fine sand, with <br />medium-sized gravel (~ to 1~ inch), <br />loose, slightly moist, no mottling, <br />frequent fine roots <br />30 - 34" - Light grey, coarse sand, loose, dry, <br />no mottling, very few fine roots <br />(majority of fine roots ends at about <br />25 inches) <br />34 - 40" - Light grey, very fine sand, hard, dry, <br />no mottling, very few fine roots <br />40 - 42" - 2 inch band of medium-sized gravel, hard, <br />dry, no mottling, very few fine roots <br />42 - 44" - Light grey, very fine sand, hard, dry, <br />very few fine roots <br />. 44 - 55" - Light grey, fine, subangular gravel, <br />sizes mostly between 1/8 to ~ inch, <br />very fine sand matrix present locally, <br />
