TABLE 4.1-1
• TEST PIT TP 1
The test pit is located in the alluvium of the Munger
Canyon, close to the confluence with the East Salt Creek.
The surface is flat, the soils are of alluvial origin. The
surface is covered by a sparse cover of sagebrush and
grasses. The valley is not irrigated. It carries traces of
past agricultural use, probably grazing only. Soil horizons
are not well developed except for very slightly organic
A-horizon. At about 3 feet, another slightly organic horizon,
about 1 to 2 inches thick, is developed. During the excavation
of the pit, a few large boulders(up to 3 feet in diameter)
of sandstone have been encountered.
0 - 1" - Cover of sparse vegetation
i 1 - 6" - Grey, very fine sand, hard, dry, low
' porosity, no mottling, frequent fine
roots
6 - 16" - Grey, fine sand, with traces of small-
size gravel, hard, dry, low porosity,
very fine roots, no traces of mottling
16 - 20" - Grey, fine gravel, subangular pebbles to
'~ inch, hard, dry,low porosity, lenticu-
lar character, no traces of mottling, very
fine roots
22 - 35" Grey, very fine sand, with few small
pebbles, hard, dry, low porosity,- no
mottling, few very fine roots
35 - 37" Dark gray, very fine sand, slightly or-
. ganic, medium hard, dry, low porosity
