• A list of the major equipment used at the Trapper Mine to perform the various mining and reclamation
operations is shown on Table 3.1-2. Variations to this list may occur, but the list is a representation of the
general types of equipment that will be used.
Table 3.1-3 lists the maximum yearly amount of disturbance and reclamation in acres projeded for the
current permit tens.
Prior to any mining or other disturbance, the area may be Geared of brush utilizing dozers, or on occasion
and with prior approval from the Division, a prescribed bum. As an integral part of reclamation, topsoil is
removed and placed diredly on regraded spoils when available or stored in stockpile for later
replacement.
After the topsoil has been removed, the overburden is drilled utilizing rotary blast hole drills. This opera-
tion is Initiated with the construdion of drill pads. Drill pads are terraced benches built parallel to the
strike of the hillside with dozers. These are required to provide a level area for the drills to operate on.
Overburden is drilled to the top of the first coal seam to be mined requiring holes varying from 15 to 150
feet deep. Depths may increase depending upon future economic stripping limits. Holes a2 drilled on
varying patterns according to the depth of hole and type of material encountered.
Dry holes are loaded with a bulk ammonium nitrate and fuel oil (ANFO) mix. Emulsion blasting agent
• (emulsion-ANFO mix) is used in wet holes. MuRiple detonators are used to ensure proper detonation.
Optimum fragmentation with minimum seismic disturbance is obtained by using detonating delays (refer
to Sedion 3.4). Immediatety prior to detonation, the blast dreuit is established and then the blast is
initiated.
The operation which follows blasting in the mining sequence is stripping, which is primarily accomplished
wRh draglines. The draglines are assisted by dozers which perform such fundions as Gean-up, dragline
pad preparation and cable moves.
p~-,~
3-12 _,..., :. , - -
- -----P~A~l-1 ~ 1998-
