Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This processing and loadout site has been
inactive since June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). Ground
conditions on this day were dry with patchy snow cover mainly in shaded areas. The
weather was clear and cold with strong, gusty winds.
Hydrologic Balance
The newly constructed mine dewatering pond (shown below) was holding only a small
amount of frozen water in the east end. No water can be pumped to this pond because the
pump has not been installed at this time. Pond 7 was also holding a small amount of frozen
water. The outlet gate on this pond was found closed as required.
Support Facilities
The operator is performing maintenance on equipment in preparation for improving weather
conditions in the coming field season.
The mine appeared in normal condition for the winter season.
3
