._ f:c.~
L' A~J~~ 1.
MINING PLAN
Western Gravel LLC intends to pursue this proposed gravel pit as an aggregate source to
serve the needs of the general public.
Access to the site is off of Rio Blanco County Road No. 5, property owner is acquiring
land that the access road will enter upon, and the access permit is being applied for.
Mining operations (crushers, conveyors, dozers and scrapers) will be located in the
Southeast portion of the gravel pit. The topsoil will be stripped and be placed in the form
of a berm along the North side of the project. This will accumulate over the life of the
pit, but will be re-vegetated within a 90-day time frame. Weeds will be comrolled in all
disturbed areas and on the entire site. There is 3.5 feet of overburden, which will be
stripped and stockpiled in the form of a berm along the North side of the project. The
gravel will be mined generally from East to West and North. The mining operations will
be located in the extreme Southeast corner. All mining and processing operation will be
designed to manage storm water runofiy so that no sediments flow to existing drainage.
The storage of finished material will be stored in the southerly portion of the gravel pit on
a slightly higher elevation to protect the finished product and made it more available for
transport.
The gravel bed lies under about six inches of topsoil, and 3 1/2 feet of overburden. The
gravel itself is approximately 10 feet thick. There will be a maximum of 90,266 tons of
gravel removed a year. Finished products will be stockpiled on site. It is projected the
life of this gravel pit to be two years.
No ground water is anticipated and very little storm water, due to the location of the
gravel pit, on a bench above the level of the White River. Storm water that does accrue
in the pit will be pumped out into a dry draw.
All exposed areas in the development will have topsoil replaced (approximately 6"} and
seeded in accordance with Soil Conservation Service recommendations. There will be
temporary haul roads down into the working area until such time that the portion of the
excavation is complete.
The floor of the gravel pit will be a constant grade running East to West of 1%, making
the Northwest portion of the pit the lowest point.
The estimated date that mining will commence is March 2008. Mining is estimated to
continue for approximately two years.
