(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2000-158
INSPECTION DATE 01/03/08 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OB3SRVATION3
This was an inspection of the S&H Pit, File No. M-2000-158 conducted by Erica Crosby and
Peter Hays of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The mine site is
located approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Platteville in Weld County, Colorado. Steve
O'Brian of Environment Inc. was present during the inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to inspect the proposed D&K Mine (Permit No. M-2007-059)
that will overlap the S&H Mine on the south end of the site. The area currently being
permitted is 80.32 acres in size and consists of two parcels; one owned by Krystal McCoy
(68.21 acres currently in the S&H permit boundary) and the other by Dusty Hoffschneider
(12.11 new acres). The applicant states that once the D&K Permit is approved by the
Division, the operator for the S&H Mine will request an acreage reduction of 68.21 to prevent
any overlap between the two permits.
The site inspection was limited to the active mining areas due to snow cover. The inspection
focused on the area currently being mined known as Sharkey's Lake. A slurry wall was
installed around the perimeter of Sharkey's Lake in 2006 in order to prevent ground water
from migrating into the pit. Mining is sporadic in the pit and it was difficult to determine
the area currently being mined. The Division will schedule an aerial inspection in order to
determine the area that has been affected.
The operator stated that a bond reduction will be forthcoming requesting a release of the
Sharkey's lake slurry wall that has been approved by the Office of the State Engineer. The
Division will conduct a follow-up inspection once the bond reduction request has been
submitted and determine a new cost based on the approved mining and reclamation plan.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Rocky Hoffschneider ^ BL
OPERATOR Platte Sand & Gravel LLC. ^ FS
STREET P.O.
