Townsend Ave.
Montrose, CO 81401
Dear Judy:
This letter is to give you a status report on the Olathe wetland bank. As you know, we
submitted the plans to Nick Mezei of the Corps of Engineers office in Grand Junction
many months ago. Nick Mezei left that office and Ken Jacobsen has been filling in but
there has been a huge backlog of work in the entire office. I have talked to Ken a few
times over the past 6 months and he tells me that they will provide us a response but it
has not yet happened.
Mike Klish from Westwater in Grand Junction does extensive wetland work in the
surrounding area and he reports to me that the same situation is occurring with his
projects. I will continue to try to keep this moving, but at this point, I am very
disappointed in their ability to get anything done from that office.
The project has significant earthwork that must be done to get the ground at the
required level for the wetlands to survive. The lakes must be filled and other areas
must be cut.
In addition, the site inspection that occurred with the COE before the submittal showed
rampant knapweed growth. The COE stated they could not approve the wetland bank
construction until the weeds were fully removed. The infestation was strong enough that
multiple sprayings were needed. I do not know the current status of the weeds on site.
Thanks, Judy.
Sincerely, 1 ti ~ i~;
Greg Le•bvicki, P. E.
Greg Lewicki and Associates
