MATERIAL QUANTITY: According to a map titled, "Western Gravel, Inc., Wetlands
Bank, Map 2: Current Conditions," dated March 23, 2005, the North Pond water surface
is 5348.8 feet elevation and covers 1.87 acres. The lowest elevation of the pond floor is
5336.5 feet; making the pond approximately 12 feet deep. Measurements from the map
indicate pond slopes below the water surface ranging from 2.9H:1V to 7H:1V.
Therefore, for the purposes of estimating backfill quantities for the North Pond, the
Division will assume pond slopes at 5H:1V.
Material quantity to backfill 1.87 acres area at 12 foot depth =
(1.87 acres)(43560 sq.ft./acre)(12'D) / 27 = 36,203.2 cu.yd.
However, as noted above, the pond slopes are 5H:1V and not vertical. Therefore, the
right triangle of material formed by the 5H:1V slopes (12 feet high and 60 feet in length)
must be subtracted from the above total.
Area of triangle = (base xheight) / 2 = (60 feet x 12 feet) / 2 = 360 sq.ft.
Assume shoreline = 2(250 feet) + 2(300 feet) = 1100 feet
Material quantity to be subtracted = (1100 feet x 360 sq.ft.) / 27 = 14666.67 cu.yd.
Backfill to the water surface = 36203.2 cu.yd. - 14666.7 cu.yd. = 21,536.5 cu.yd.
Backfill to one foot above the water surface =
(1.87 acres)(43560 sq.ft./acre)(1'D) / 27 = 3016.9 cu.yd.
21536.5 cu.yd. + 3016.9 cu.yd. = 24,553.4 cu.yd.
TOTAL COST FOR DELIVERY OF MATERIAL TO SITE:
24553.4 cu.yd. x $15.67/cu.yd. _ $384,751.78
Task 2, page 2 of 2
