M. COMMENTS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS.No one represented the
operator,Bowie Resources LLC, during the field inspection.Deep snow, one to two feet deep, covered all of the
mine sites except where roads had been graded.
Unit train loadout
The three gates to the loadout were open. Mine ID signs were up at each entrance. The entrance roads had been
graded clear of snow,as had been the former coal truck loop and the road to the shop area. The road to the east
side of the mine had not been graded.
There was a long string of empty coal cars on the spur line at the loadout. There was no activity on site. The
operator had filled in the hole next to the former silo area. All of the ditches and culverts, as well as the
sediment pond, were covered in snow. Mine and drilling equipment was still being stored on the facilities
bench. The stockpile of gravel sized concrete from the demolished silos was small in volume and will soon be
depleted as it is used elsewhere.
Well Field
The road up Steven's Gulch and the road to the well field were graded of snow. The entire site was covered in
deep snow except for a graded portion of the parking lot.The mine ID sign was up at the entrance and the
topsoil sign was up on its post on the topsoil stockpile. There were no problems noted with the pump house.
Highway Coal Stockpile
This area was completely covered in snow. The mine ID sign was up at the entrance. Emptv railcars were on the
spur line at this site. The snow covered cut slopes appeared to be stable. The entrance road had not been graded
clear of snow.
Run-of-Mine Coal Stockpile Area
This area was completely covered in snow that was at least one foot deep. The entrance haul road had not been
cleared of snow.
c:/word/bowie I/insp0108
