CTLITHOMPSON
January 14, 2008
(Revised January 16, 2008)
Greg Lewicki and Associates
11541 Warrington Court
Parker, Colorado 80138
Attention: Mr. Ryan Ellis
Subject: Rock Core Test Results
Project No. CT14431-455
Dear Mr. Ellis:

JAN 1 6 2008
Divislo~~ v. t~ec,a~~lauon,
Mining and Safety
This report presents compressive strength and permeability results for a rock slab
that was delivered to our laboratory. The rock slab was cored and samples were prepared
for compressive strength and permeability testing.
The rock core was tested in general conformance with ASTM D 7012 (Method C),
"Compressive Strength and Elasfic Moduli of Intact Rock Core Specimens under Varying
States of Stress and Temperatures." The sample did not meet the specification the height to
diameter ratio, due to the size of the original specimen. The compressive strength of the
core is 9,050 psi. To correct for the shorter than specified height to diameter ratio we
applied a correction factor according to ASTM C 42 for concrete cores. The correction
factor for the height to diameter ratio is 0.938 which is equivalent to a corrected
compressive strength of 8,490 psi. Results are presented in Table 1
One 3-inch diameter core was submitted to Knight Piesold for permeability testing
using aflex-wall permeability (ASTM D 5084). The permeability of the specimen is 2.9 x 10'
cm/s or 0.025 m/day flow for the 3-inch diameter core.
The hydraulic conductivity test (USBR 5600) is currently running on an 8-inch
diameter core. The very low permeability makes this test very slow, and as of now, no flow
has been detected in the test method. After flow begins, data can be taken and we will send
the results of the testing when the testing is complete.
If you have any questions regarding the information in this report, please feel free to
contact us.
Respectfully submitted,
CT~ OMP N MATERIALS ENGINEERS, INC.
Matthew A.
