2.05 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SIIRFACE OR IINDER6ROIIND MINZNOi ACTIVITIES --
MINIMIIM REQIIIREMENTB FOR OPERATION AND RECLAMATION PLANS.
2.05.E Reclamation Plan.
Fertilization Methods
After analysis of redistributed topsoil has been
accomplished, the fertilizer requirements of the
soil will be determined. Appropriate rates of
fertilizer will then be applied along with the
hydro-seeding or hand broadcast prior to
application of the excelsior blanket. It is
expected that at least 30 lbs./acre of avail-able
nitrogen (N) and 60 lbs./acre of available phos-
phorus (P) will be required. A slow release fer-
tilizer tablet will be applied to the container-
ized stock at the time of planting.

(vi) Revegitation Success
Data obtained from species diversity studies per-
formed by Harney-White Ecological Consultants of
Littleton, Colorado, during 1981 and 1982 on
three vegetation reference areas near the Orchard
Valley Mine were used not only to develop a
reclamation seed mixture, but also to determine
a reclamation success standard for the Orchard
Valley Mine. The data clearly showed that the
area of the Orchard Valley Mine is naturally
weedy and is not representative of the
reclamation goals of CWI. To develop an accept-
able standard for reclamation success, literature
surveys of vegetation information from the Paonia
area, data from local mines, data from Soil Con-
servation Service range sites, as well as the
data from the Orchard Valley Mine reference
areas, Were used collectively. Refer to the
Vegetation Appendix in Volume 9A for further
information regarding the development of the
success standard.
Revised 05/30/90
74A
