NOTICE OF INTENT TO EXPLORE <br />INVOLVING REMOVAL OF 250 TONS OR LESS OF COAL <br />.IEEP TRAIL COAL EXPLORATION PLAN AREA <br />PAGE 15 <br />Road Construction <br />To the extent possible, BRL intends to utilize existing roads for access and, where <br />available, disturbed sites (wide spots, borrow pits, etc.) for drilling sites. Approximately <br />0.43 miles of new road construction will be required for the drill site shown on Map No. 2 <br />- Topography & Drill Hole Locations. Road construction and reclamation will be in <br />accordance with applicable standards of the United States Forest Service for temporary <br />access roads and with performance standards of the Division of Reclamation, Mining <br />and Safety for light use roads (§4.03.3). Roads will be constructed using a Caterpillar D- <br />9class tractor-dozer and a D-5 class tractor-dozer or equivalent or smaller track - <br />mounted bulldozer, and aproportionally-sized backhoe such as a John Deere 410C. <br />Most existing roads were constructed for coal exploration purposes. Some of these <br />roads may require regrading, replacement of culverts, etc., for renewed drilling access <br />use. The backhoe should be adequate for this work. <br />BRL does not anticipate any blasting during the proposed exploration program. <br />Excavated Earth and Debris Disposal <br />Topsoil will be removed from drill sites and new roads and stored for use in reclamation <br />in accordance with applicable rules and regulations of the Division of Reclamation, <br />Mining and Safety. <br />Drill cuttings, if any, will be shoveled into the holes during sealing, scattered around the <br />drill site before reclamation, or both. <br />Earth excavated during road and site preparation will be used for reclamation of same. <br />The excavated earth associated with these sites will be stabilized by grading and re- <br />vegetation as required by the Bureau of Land Management, U. S. Forest Service and <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. <br />Plant debris, if any, produced during road and site preparation will be stored and used <br />during reclamation. <br />Trash, used containers, etc., will be removed from drilling sites on a routine basis and <br />deposited in appropriate off-site receptacles. <br />Locations And Areas of Topsoil Salvage And Storage <br />Topsoil will be removed from new roadways and drill sites in accordance with §4.06 and <br />stored in the respective immediate areas for reclamation purposes. Topsoil removed <br />from drill sites will be stored within or immediately adjacent to the site. <br />Volume of topsoil removed will depend on the soil that needs to be or is available to be <br />excavated and stored. Assuming an average topsoil depth of one foot, 90 cubic yards <br />will be removed and stored for every 100 lineal feet of 24 foot wide roadway, for a total <br />~ of 2,000 cubic yards for 0.43 miles of new road.
