NOTICE OF INTENT TO EXPLORE
INVOLVING REMOVAL OF 250 TONS OR LESS OF COAL
JEEP TRAIL COAL EXPLORATION PLAN AREA
PAGE 13
introduced weedy species at varying densities (Hayes Environmental Services, Inc.,
1995)
The "Bare" cover designation includes rock slides, steep-walled cliffs, and other
areas which support little or no vegetation due to the surface expression of geologic
material. Bare areas are also associated with the boundaries of the Terror Creek
Reservoir. Theses areas total a comparatively small acreage.
§2.02.2(2)(d): Period of intended exploration.
BRL would like to commence drilling and access road and site preparation work no later
than June 1, 2008. Drilling of JT-1-9A will occur during May or June 2008. Drilling of
JT-1-10A will occur during May or June 2009.
BRL estimates the total time to complete drilling and geophysical logging of each hole to
take approximately 20 days, assuming a single rig working two 12 hour shifts seven days
a week. The holes are to be drilled during the 2008 and 2009 drilling seasons. Drilling
and logging should be complete by the end of the 2009 drilling season.
Reclamation is expected to require no more than 2 days (average one 10 to 12 hour day
per site) and will be completed after the gob vent holes have served their purpose. Hole
sealing will be contemporaneous with reclamation at the latest and is estimated to
• average about one day per hole.
The program is expected to be complete by approximately October 31,
2009.§2.02.2(2)(e): Right to enter surface lands not owned by the applicant.
An Exploration License application has been submitted to the Colorado State Office,
Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Department of the Interior, in accordance with 43
CFR 3410.2- 1. The Exploration License Application is accompanied by an Exploration
Plan prepared in accordance with 43 CFR 3482.1(a); this Notice of Intent is a
restatement of that plan. An approved Exploration License and Plan will constitute
BRL's right to enter Federal surface for the proposed exploration activities.
§2.02.2(2)(f): Practices to be followed to protect the environment from
adverse impacts as a result of the exploration activities.
All exploration activities will be conducted in accordance with applicable regulations of
the USDA -Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and applicable rules and
performance standards of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety.
Prior to construction of new drill pads and roadways, topsoil consisting of the top 12
inches of soil or the entire soil horizon to bedrock, whichever is less, will be removed and
~ stored in convenient locations for retrieval and redistribution during reclamation, in
accordance with applicable portions of §4.06, including §4.06.2(2)(a)(1).
