4-40 <br />' semi-stagnant pools following spring snowmelt. Suspended <br />solids content is usually very high during runoff because <br />of the high erodibility of the local landforms and the sparse- <br />ness of the vegatative cover. Dissolved constituents are at <br />their lowest during spring snowmelt owing to their dilution <br />by the relatively large quantities of flow which occur over <br />a longer time than experienced during other seasons. Water <br />quality monitoring is discussed in Section 2.5. <br />4.5.3.5 Erosion and Sedimentation <br />Annual sediment yield from within the permit area has been <br />estimated (U.S. Department of the Interior, 1979a) as 2.4 tons <br />per acre to about 4.3 tons per acre. The large basins within <br />the area are expected to yield less sediment per unit area <br />than the smaller basins due to the retention of sediment <br />within the channels of the larger basins. <br />Sedimentation controls associated with disturbances addressed <br />in Chapter 2.0 are addressed specifically in Section 2.3.4. <br /> <br />
