4-8
4.3 Nature and Extent of the Coal Deposits
4.3.1 Nature of the Coal
In .the central part of the Munger Canyon Permit Area, the
Cameo Seam is split into an Upper Cameo Bench and a Lower
Cameo Bench with the separation between the two benches
reaching an observed maximum of 71 feet at Drill Hole 7-27-14.
These benches merge and become a single seam both to the north
and south. The mining plan addresses development and explora-
tion in the Lower Cameo Seam and the unsplit total Cameo Seam.
The rank of the coal is high-volatile C bituminous with local
variations in ash, sulphur, etc., due to the lenticular inclu-
• sions of bone coal within the seam. These bony partings are
most prevalent in areas where the Cameo Seam is thickest. The
results of 16 separate proximate analysis of seams in 8 drill
holes are presented in Table 4.3-1. These analyses are from
all of the seams present with the exception of the Palisade
seam which does not outcrop on the Permit Area. The analyses
cover 127.2' of coal recovery and are representative of the
entire seam without deleting any of the bony partings. The
BTU value seems controlled by the presence of partings as is
evident from the correlation between variations in the percent
ash and the BTU value.
The range of sulphur in the coals analyzed ranges from a high
• of 0.94$ to a low of 0.38, with a weighted average of 0.51.
