4-5
4.1.5 Cultural and Historic Resources
In conjunction with a continuing exploration program, including
two (2) underground operations, archaeological surveys of portions
of SEI properties proposed for physical disturbance were completed
under the direction of Mr. Carl Conner, Grand River Institute, and
Dr. Clifton Wignall of Mesa College. The surveys, conducted in
cooperation with tdr. John Crouch of the BLM, addressed all portions
of the properties physically impacted by SEI activities.
The above noted surveys were expanded upon and supplemented by
a cultural and historic inventory of total mine plan areas. All
areas of potential surface disturbance were 1008 surveyed as shown
in Figure 3 of the Cultural Resources Sampling Inventory found in
Appendix J. Areas physically surveyed are shown relative to the
permit area which when cross referenced with Figure 2.2-1 clari-
fies that all areas proposed to be disturbed were physically
transected.
The inventory has identified three sites (see Appendix J), all of
which are outside of the areas proposed for disturbance as described
in this mine plan. Protective measures shall be described upon
the request of the agency contingent upon the listing of the sites
on the National Register of Historic Places.
As noted in Appendix J, it is unlikely that such occurrences as
noted above would exist in the upper reaches of the mine plan area
due to the lack of water and the topographic limitations of the area.
C.~
