4.0 DESCRTPTION 'OF THE ENVIRONMENT <br />4.1 Land Use <br />4.1.1 Regional Land Use <br />Beef production and associated agricultural uses seem to <br />be the predominant land use in this portion of western <br />Garfield County. <br />There is also a recreational value associated with the <br />wildlife habitat evident in this portion of the county. <br />The value would be in the form of hunting and trapping <br />potential. <br />The permit area, as well as the general area of the six <br />block lease tract, is not within an area designated as <br />unsuitable for underground mining under 30 CFR 764 or 765, <br />or within an area under study for such designation. <br />4.1.2 Site Land Use <br />The land discussions relevant to the permit and mine plan <br />areas are broken down into three categories: historical, <br />present and future land use. <br />4.1.2.1 Historical Land Use <br />Historical land use within the permit and mine plan areas <br />has been consistant with the regional uses. Grazing has <br />been the primary use of lands within the mine plan area <br />with unknown degrees of success. <br />
