2.3.3 Water Requirements During Mining and Reclamation
Water is required for the control of fugitive dust along the haul road. Water
requirements for fugitive dust control are approximately 1500 gallons per day or 540,000
gallons per year. There will be periods when no water will be required; thereby, reducing this
requirement by an indeterminate volume.
2.3.3.1 Water Rights
Water used in the mining and pollution control operations were obtained from the
McClane Canyon Mine dewatering system.
2.3.4 Sedimentation Controls
Surface runoff from the areas disturbed by the waste rock disposal area are routed to
a sediment pond or other approved structures. The ponds and ditches were designed in
accordance with applicable criteria. Discharge of water from the sediment pond is covered
by a CDPS permit. One new silt fence was placed in the berm that surrounds the reclaimed
lower topsoil stockpile area. The silt fence is designed so the outflow will not have more
than 0.5 ml/I of sediment. The drainage areas are shown on Page M(viii)-iii.
Mine Bench Area
Five new silt fences were strategically placed at the reclaimed bench as part of the
2007 reclamation efforts. Two of the silt fences were designed so their outflow will not have
more than 0.5 ml/I of sediment. The three additional silt fences were required to provide
drainage relief from low points in the berms. The drainage areas are shown on Page M(viii)-
1 iv. As shown on the figure, Ditch H bisects the area. Berms were installed on each side of
Ditch H to keep disturbed area run-off out of the ditches. In response to NOV CV-2007-003
two additional silt fence segments were installed along each of the channel berms on the
east and west sides of Channel "H" berm. Additionally, a berm break and water bar were
installed to direct flow from an ephemeral channel into Channel "H".
Waste Rock Disposal Area
See section 2.2.5 Waste Rock Disposal Site.
•
RN-05 2-26 10/07
