4.05.4 STREAM CHANNEL DIVERSIONS (RELOCATION OF STREAMS) AND STREAM
CHANNEL RECONSTRUCTION
The only stream channel diversion associated with EFCI's ongoing mining
and related activities is the Magpie Creek diversion. Magpie Creek is
an ephemeral drainage with an upstream drainage area of just over one
(1) square mile. The. Magpie Creek diversion was originally designed and
constructed as a permanent diversion at the time of initial mining
development. However, the original design did not meet subsequent
regulatory requirements for permanent diversions, so the existing
diversion was reclassified as a temporary diversion to provide
effective flow routing and control during the active operating period
of the Southfield Mine. Prior to completion of final reclamation and
related activities, EFCI plans to modify the existing Magpie Creek
temporary diversion to meet applicable permanent diversion criteria.
Modification will involve regrading of the channel, placement of rip-
rap, revegetation, or other appropriate erosion control materials to
control erosion and minimize additional contributions of suspended
• solids to the stream system. Channel designs and erosion control
measures for the Magpie Creek temporary and permanent diversion are
described in detail in Exhibit 19, Volume 12a, of the permit
application.
u
4.05-11 Revised 7/24/01
Technical Revision No. 32
