Access road #lA will be used after reclamation to access the Portal Bench at the
Roadside South Portal area. The road will be constructed in conformance with
the design and construction requirements of 4.03.2(3), which apply to "roads not
within the disturbed area". These criteria apply because the road is a permanent
road that will remain in place following sediment pond removal. The following
embankment specification applies to the road.
In the placement of embankment for the access road, materials will be spread in
layers approximately 12 inches deep, and such lifts made uniformly over long
stretches and for the full width of the embankment. Each lift will be moistened
or dried to a uniform moisture content suitable for maximum compaction.
Hauling equipment will be routed both ways over the fill and routing varied
sufficiently to achieve uniform compaction. Compaction will be carried to the
edge of fills so that the final slopes are firm. A sheepsfoot roller or other suitable
equipment may be required to achieve compaction. Compaction testing will be
performed every 4 feet and will continue until the unit dry weight reaches a
value not less than 90% of maximum unit dry weight attained in laboratory
compaction test in accordance with the specifications of ASTM D 698, Method D.
~~
r 1
LJ
PR-3 13-3i 6/07
