Lease C-029859 -- 2522.37 Acres
• 1. Carbonera Seam
The Carbonera coal zone overlies the Cameo at distances
ranging from 40 to 100 feet on this lease, averaging 64 feet. The
Carbonera throughout its extent appears to be a series of detached coal
seams and lenses rather than a distinct bed, making correlation diffi-
cult. In some areas, such as in Coal Canyon to the northwest of this
lease, the entire interval from the top of the Rollins Sandstone to the
top of the Carbonera zone contains so many coal beds of variable thickness
that even differentiation between the two groups is difficult. lTnile
the interval is fairly distinct on this lease, the Carbonera zone itself
contains from one to ten beds, thus making correlations of individual
beds between holes virtually impossible. Ia making reserve calculations
• the thickest bed or beds in each hole were correlated. The seam i.,
multiple bedded in virtually all holes, although it is much more homogenous
and consistent in the southern part of the lease than in the northern
part. (See "Car.bonera Seam - Drill Hole Data").
As previously inferred, the Carbonera appears to thicken and become
considerably cleaner toward the southeast end of the lease. The following
table shows individual thicknesses and depths determined by drilling.
Hole No. Thickness, ft. Depth, ft.
CC-76-1 6.79* 330.76
CC-76-2 7.78 478.62
CC-76-3 11.95* 341.38
CC-76-4 7.00 (e-log) 709.64
CC-76-5 9.93* 29.32
CC-76-6 8.53* 124.58
CC-76-7 7.15 569.95
CC-77-1 6.79 808.66
• CC-77-2 13.31 1,215.16
Average thickness 8.65
*These cores contained major partings in relation to overall thickness.
Cores from holc~ CC-76-5 and 76-6 were wcacherrd and had to be blown out
of the core cuhe: thus ex:ce order. and th.iclmess is unknown.
