2-38
2.3.1 Topsoil Availability
The availability of topsoil materials associated with disturbances within the permit
area has been assessed as part of the baseline soil survey program and reported in
Section 4.4.4. Two types of topsoil will be salvaged from the areas to be disturbed.
Rivra Gravely Sandy Loam Variant will be salvaged to a depth of 12 inches at the
sediment pond and rip-rap stockpile areas, while 24 inches of Glendive Sandy Loam
will be salvaged from the office area. The types of soil in the permit area and salvage
depths in the disturbed areas are shown in Figures 4.4-1 and 2.2-2, respectively.
Approximately 900 cu. yards of topsoil will be salvaged from the sedimentation
pond and 980 cu. yards from the office complex. The soil to be salvaged will be
Glendive Sandy Loam and Rivra Gravely Sandy Loam with 1446 cubic yards and 273
cubic yards respectively. This topsoil will be stored in the McClave Canyon topsoil
stockpile.
Approximately 250 cubic yards of topsoil will be salvaged from the expanded
sediment drying area. The soil to be salvaged will be Nihill Loam. This topsoil will be
stored in the adjacent topsoil stockpile.
2.3.1 Topsoil Availability
Vegetation and topsoil will be removed from any area that will be disturbed
(access/haul road extensions, additional facilities areas and the sedimentation pond)
when suitable topsoil exists in recoverable thicknesses. Removal will be by front end
loaders or some other equipment adequate to differentially segregate suitable topsoil
material from unsuitable soil to the depth indicated on Figure 4.4-1.
C]
M`Clane
Volume 1
11 /07
