2-27
Coal waste may be generated from the operation in the form of coal fines, roof
falls and other material (high-ash coaly material) scraped up from the coal yard area.
This material will be stored in the temporary pile adjacent to the coal product stockpile
and in the sediment drying area. This material will be blended and shipped with the
product when possible. Coaly material excavated from ditches, sediment traps and the
sediment pond are placed in the sediment drying area located above the sediment
pond. The Operator had periodically hauled material from the temporary coal waste
pile and sediment drying area to the coal mine waste disposal pile located in Munger
Canyon. The Operator no longer has approval from the Mine Safety and Health
Administration (MSHA) to dispose of non coal rock slope material in areas of the mine
that are no longer actively producing coal.
A dispute with a local landowner regarding access to Munger Canyon will result
in reclamation of the Munger Canyon coal mine waste disposal area. The Operator
does not generate significant quantities of coal mine waste. The mine operated
continuously from February 2000 until November 2004 before it hauled gob to the
Munger Canyon coal mine waste disposal area. However, the Operator does need a
place to store coal mine waste. Therefore, the Operator will submit a technical revision
application to construct a coal mine waste disposal area within the McClave Canyon
Mine permit area by the end of 2007.
All non-coal waste generated is disposed of by a commercial waste disposal
company. The non-coal waste is typically stored in a dumpster which is periodically
hauled to a disposal facility by the waste disposal company. During periods when the
mine is idle, the limited amount of non-coal waste generated is sometimes collected
and hauled to a waste disposal facility by the Operator.
•
M`Clane Volume 1 11/07
