2-16
2.1.6 Resource Recovery
The operator proposes to continue extraction of portions of the Cameo Coal Seam
from within the permit area. Limitations on the amount of coal that will be recovered
will be based upon technological and economic feasibility. These limitations are
discussed in the following paragraphs. Operation of the mine during the next permit
term will mainly be in the area to the south of the existing mine, see Figure 2.1-1.
Specific limitations expected to be encountered are burn exclusion zones and fault
barrier pillars. Quantities of coal to be extracted or excluded during the next permit
term are shown in Paragraph 2.1.6.6.
2.1.6.1 Split Seam Areas
The Cameo seam exists as both a single and split seam within the mine plan area.
When evaluating the feasibility of mining multiple or split seams, a minimum
interburden of 50 feet is considered necessary. Mining will be performed primarily in
the upper seam. Mining in the lower seam is considered feasible in the northeast
corner of the permit area where the upper seam thins to less than 5 feet. Mining of
the lower split will require the necessary permit modifications.
2.1.6.2 Minable Seam Heights
As described, the Cameo Seam exists as both a single and split seam in the mine plan
area. The Lower Cameo has heights from 8 to 17 feet in the split seam area. The
Total Cameo Seam reaches 22 feet high. It is planned to mine coal from a minimum
height of 5 feet to a maximum height of 11 feet. 1n areas that are greater than
McClane Volume i February, 2002
