cover will be adequate to stabilize the site and control erosion but may not necessarily equal
the cover of the natural surrounding areas. The species selected for site stabilization will not
require continued irrigation or soil amendments.
(2) Tree establishment: No planting of trees are recommended in areas where a slurry wall
and earthen dams are constructed_ Further, the proposed post mining land use is developed
water resource and not forest lands.
(3) Establishment of rangeland: Not applicable, the post mining land use is
developed water resource and not rangeland.
(4) Consideration of environmental and biological factors in the Reclamation Plan:
Since the post mining land use is a developed water resource, grazing will not be
allowed. The primary goals of the revegetation plan are to ensure site erosion control and
stability. These goals may be met through a combination of physical and biological
measures. The NRCS will be consulted to ensure that these goals are met.
(Sj Ensure the establishment of a diverse and long-lasting vegetative cover: In
those areas where vegetation will be established, the site will be prepared to provide the best
chance for the selected plant species becoming established. Following is what is
recommended by the local NRCS Field Office:
Seedbed Preparation: The seedbed should be well settled and firm, but friable enough
that the seed can be drilled at the recommended depth. Soils that have been compacted by
traffic or other equipment should be tilled (deep-chiseled or ripped if necessary) to break up
restrictive or compacted layers, and then harrowed and rolled or packed to prepare the
required firm seedbed. If the seed is to be broadcast seeded, then the seedbed should be
settled and fairly firm, but left rough enough to catch the seed and allow some coverage by
soil when tracked in by equipment or harrowed and packed into the soil surface. Avoid
seedbed preparation when the soil is wet to prevent seedbed compaction. Planting depth
should be less than one inch. Drill raw spacing should be approximately 8 inches.
(~ Methods of weed control: The site is a commercial sod farm so noxious weeds are
actively controlled. However, if noxious weeds do invade the site, a weed control program
will be implemented as soon as possible. A portion of the reclamation cost will be devoted to
this item. Please .see Exhibit "T' Vegetation Information for the attached weed management
plan.
(7) Fire lanes and access roads: Not applicable, it will not be necessary to construct fire
lanes or access roads for planting.
(8) Delays to the revegetation process on selected areas: It is understood by the
Operator/Applicant that planting required for reclamation may be delayed, through the period
