III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This processing and loadout site has been
inactive since June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). Ground
conditions on this day were generally dry with some snow cover mainly in shaded areas.
The weather was moderate with partly cloudy skies.
Support Facilities
The main gate was found locked. Nothing has changed since the last State inspection. The
operator visits the site occasionally to load straw bales for seeding operations at Lorencito
Canyon. Pumping of mine water has not begun at this time and will likely be delayed until
financial arrangements are made with the pump contractor.
The mine appeared in normal condition for the winter season.
3
