III. COMMENTS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS.No one represented the operator
during the inspection. The site had received a recent precipitation event.
H dy rology
The sediment pond had a little ice-covered water in it.The primary and emergency spillways were operational.
The pond embankment appeared to be stable.
The standing water level in the hillside spring water treatment pond was just below the horizontal pipe in the
pond. The treatment pond embankment appeared to be stable and the spillways were functioning properly.
Roads
There was some snow and ice on the paved entrance road. The bridge across the North Fork of the Gunnison
River also had snow on it. However, the road and bridge were passable.
Signs and Markers
The mine ID sign post is on the ground and needs to be put back upright. The"no trespassing"sign was up on
the entrance gate.
Facilities
The demolished mine office building has not been burned yet, although that may occur in a week or so.The
entrance gate to the mine site was closed.
Reclamation
The reclaimed portal bench road appeared to be well vegetated and stable. The reclaimed east side fan area was
also well vegetated and showed no signs of slope instability. The reclaimed west side portal area does not have a
good vegetative cover near the cliff face.
c:/word/bear3/insp 1207
