M. COmAWNTS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Seneca I1 Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the DRMS.
Aerial photographs were taken on November 24, 2007 at approximately 10:28 a.m. Mike Boulay
of the DRMS reviewed the aerial photographs. Weather conditions were clear and sunny at the
time of the flight. Most of the mine site had a light covering of snow. Thirteen photos were
taken during the flyover. There no problems noted in any of the photographs.
Roads
All permanent roads were lightly snow covered and all appeared to be passable. Access roads to
the former office and shop/warehouse areas and the County Road up to the Wadge Impoundment
and PECOCO Pond were well maintained and clear of snow. With the exception of the office
and shop/warehouse there was no activity noted at the site at the time of the flight.
Hydrologic Balance
All of the site sedimentation ponds were visible in the photos including Ponds 002, 003, 004,
008, the PECOCO Pond and the Truck Wash Holding Pond. All of these ponds were retaining
water, but it was not evident in the photographs whether or not any of the sedimentation ponds
were discharging. They were all free of snow cover and appeared full. Pond inlets and
embankments appear to be stable and no problems were noted at any of the pond locations.
Many of the permanent stock ponds were visible in the photographs including: T8, T17, T20,
T28, T29, T30, T31, and T32. All of these were retaining a significant amount of water and all
appeared stable.
Support Facilities
The shop and warehouse areas were viewed. From the photos, these facilities and perimeter
areas appear to be well maintained and no problems were noted with this aerial inspection.
