Fall 2007 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
5.7.1 Location 9 (Location 12 of the Spring 2007 Field Visit)
Location 9 is a sprin~'seep area at the break in slope between a steep hill and a subdued marshy
area (Figure ?~{). The area is about 2~0 feet west of the Deer Creek road. This location was
mapped as a landslide area in the 2004 and 2005 reports based on a stereographic analyses of
both the 1963 USGS and the 2004 West Elk Mine aerial photos. The estimated flow of the
springiseep area on July l g, 2006 was less than 1 gpm (Figure D-9). In April 2007 the estimated
tlow from this springiseep area was substantially greater (approximately ti0 gpm). In addition, an
estimated 2U to Zi gpm ~~•as tlowing in nearby Deer Creek during April 2007, where there was no
Clow in Julv 2006. The estimated flow during this fall 2007 visit is about I gpm or maybe less,
about the same as observed during the July 1 ~, 20U6 field visit.
•
Figure 28. Spring/seep area in fall 2007, located in landslide deposits about 250 feet west of the
Deer Creek road. The flow from the area is estimated to be no more than 1 gpm.
•
831-032.780 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 43
November 2007
