• Miners would be able to have well-paying jobs and
live in their home towns. Local people dependent
upon coal for home heating would have a dependable
local supply. Two tourist trains important to the
area would have a local source of coal for their
operation.
Indirect Impacts- No impacts have been identified.
Cumulative Impacts- No impacts have been
identified.
C. Alternative 2 - No Action
There are no known impacts to the following resources in
the proposed modification area: climate, air quality,
recreation, soils, geology, mineral resources, water
resources, vegetation, wildlife, land use, cultural or
visual resources.
1. Socioeconomics
•
Direct Impacts- If the proposed modification was
not issued, the 71 people employed at the mine and
in transporting the coal would still remain
employed for approximately seven (7) years which
would be the remaining life of the mine. Impacts
of not issuing the modification would be that the
employment period would be cut short by the number
of years of production that the coal reserves in
the modification area would afford. Present
company contracts would continue to be filled until
all of the company's coal reserves are utilized.
Indirect Impacts- No impacts have been identified.
Cumulative Impacts- No impacts have been
identified.
V. AGENCIES AND/OR INDIVIDUALS CONSULTED
Tom Bird, National King Coal, Inc.
Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement
. ~ 17
